To start, you need to find two horses to breed. People who live in the Plains region often see horses. For those having trouble finding a horse, cheats and brush eggs can help you call one to you.

When reading, your horses must be close together, so we built a fence to keep our two horses from escaping.

Horses are randomly generated in the plains and savannahs, usually in herds. Some villages keep their horses in stalls and stables. You can choose any of these horses – there is no gender in Minecraft, so you don’t need to worry about whether you’ll choose a male or a female.

2. Taming the Horses

A common mistake made when breeding horses these days is trying to breed wild horses. You cannot breed wild horses in Minecraft. You can only breed tamed horses, which need to be tamed to breed properly.

To tame a horse, you need to approach it without holding anything and “use” it (right click or left trigger), which will allow you to climb on its back. The first couple of times you do, this may let you down after a while. Keep doing this until the red heart appears above the horse and stops pushing you away. It can take a while, so be patient.

So make sure you have tamed both horses.

3. Making golden apples or carrots

You must feed your horses something special—golden apples or carrots—to get them ready to breed.
There are treasure boxes in both the Main World and the Lower World, where you can find golden apples. You could also make them. Put an ordinary apple in the middle of your making menu and eight gold bars around it to make a golden apple.

Luckily, shiny carrots don’t cost too much. You can make them by putting eight gold nuggets around a standard carrot.

Quick tip:

Gold nuggets can be found in lower-world gold ores, smelted gold things, and treasure chests. You can craft nine nuggets together or smelt raw gold and gold rock to get gold ingots.

4. Using Food

When feeding your horse, you can use Golden Apples, Enchanted Golden Apples, or Golden Carrots, whichever you prefer.

We will use two gold apples to breed a horse in this example.

After selecting Golden Apples in your hot bar, you will need to feed each horse one Golden Apple, one at a time.

The game controls for using golden apples/feeding horses depend on the version of my world:

● Right-click on each horse individually in Java Edition (PC/Mac).
● You have to tap on each horse one at a time in Pocket Edition (PE).
● Press the LT button on your Xbox 360 or Xbox One device.
● On a PS3 or PS4, press the L2 button on the keyboard.
● Press the ZL button on the Wii U controller.
● To play Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button on the controller.
● To get Windows 10 Edition, right-click on each horse one at a time.
● To get the Education Edition, right-click on each horse one at a time.

When you feed the golden apples to the horses, you will see red hearts appear above their heads. Each of these horses is going into love mode.

Once you’ve fed both horses, they will turn to each other, and the hearts will continue to appear above their heads.

After a while, the red heart will disappear, and a cute little horse will stand there.

You will now have three horses: two grown-ups and a baby. The ponies (also called “foals”) will go with their parents everywhere. A baby turns into an adult horse in about 20 minutes. You can speed up the process if you feed it apples, sugar, wheat, or hay.

Tip:

You must wait 5 minutes for your horse to breed again.

You will need to find a horse to feed once you have one of the foods. There are cheats and swipe eggs you can call a horse if you can’t find one.

2. Using Food

Next, after selecting the food in your hotbar, you must feed it to the horse. In this example, we will feed the horse wheat.

Tip 1: To feed a horse, you must select food in your hot bar, and the horse must be “hungry.” Otherwise, the horse will not eat.
Tip 2: You may ride the horse if you don’t take the food and follow the instructions below. Therefore, always hold the food before attempting to follow the instructions.

Once you feed the horse, the wheat will disappear from your hot pen.

The horse’s health will improve; if the horse is a baby, it will grow into an adult in less time than normal.

Hints and Tips for Raising Horses in Minecraft

In Minecraft, horses come in seven colors and have five types of “markers.” In the game, there are 35 different kinds of horses.

When you raise two horses, the game determines the appearance of the foal by rolling a die. Most foals will share their colors and markings with one of their parents, but there is about a 29% chance that they will end up with a completely random appearance. Therefore, if you want a certain horse color, you must breed two horses with that color.

Each horse in the game will have randomized life, movement speed, and jumping strength stats when generated. When you make a foal, the game figures out its numbers by taking the average of the stats of both parents and a horse that doesn’t exist in the game. In other words, the better the parent horse, the better the foal will be. However, it is very hard to make the perfect foal.

Lastly, horses don’t have to be bred to other horses. A baby mule will be born if you breed a horse and a donkey similarly. Mules can’t have babies with any other animal. You can, however, equip mules with crates that let you carry extra goods.
